KAMPALA- Residents of Magere in Wakiso District broke into celebrations after Bobi Wine was eventually driven to home by security forces at around 2.50pm on Thursday afternoon.
Chanting pro-Bobi songs with red bandanas, the residents welcomed the MP who was being driven in a vehicle. The Kyadondo East legislator was picked shortly upon disembarking from the KQ plane and security forces have whisked him away to an unknown location, reports George Okello.
Bobi Wine’s arrival home comes shortly after Inspector General of Police-IGP Martins Okoth Ochola refuted claims that Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has been arrested a few minutes after he landed at Entebbe International Airport aboard Kenya Airways flight.
IGP Ochola in a Twitter post denied arresting the legislator, saying the police were instead ensuring his security is safe as they escort him to his Magere based home.
“Nobody has arrested him! We are simply escorting and providing security to him as we promised yesterday. He is heading home,” IGP Ochola twitted after the news broke out that the MP has been arrested.
Police had on Wednesday issued tight guidelines to be followed by the legislator upon arrival at the Entebbe International Airport. “He [Bobi Wine] will only be received by his close family members at the airport after; he will be escorted to his home. There will be no rallies,” the statement issued by police spokesperson Emilian Kayima read in part.
However, Bobi Wine in return rebuked Police for planning to accompany him to his residence in Kasangati when he arrives at the airport, insisting he has plans of making several stopovers in Najjanakumbi on Entebbe road and Kamwokya in Nakawa Division before heading home in Kyadondo.
“Why do these police officers allow themselves to descend so low? They now want to decide who picks me and where I go upon arrival?” Bobi Wine wrote on social media also adding that none of his family members will pick him but he will instead find them home.
“Well, for your information, no single family member will receive me at the airport; I will find them home coz [because] I know where home is. I will be received by friends, colleague leaders, and artistes. I will then go and see my sickly grandmother briefly at Najjanankumbi from where I will head to Kamwokya for lunch with my family (brothers and sisters) before I go to my home in Magere,” Bobi Wine wrote on Facebook.
He added that he is free Ugandan with the right to move freely in the country.
“The police have no business telling me who receives me and who cannot or where I go and where I cannot. This impunity must stop! Wama see you, friends, tomorrow,” he added.
