KAMPALA – The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has warned that Uganda could lose potential investors due the ongoing Bank of Uganda saga.
On Monday, police confirmed that they raided homes of six senior bank officials and recovered documents which suggest printing of unauthorised excess money.
Without revealing their identities the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the officials are still in police custody as investigations continue.
But according to the FDC deputy secretary general, Mr Harold Kaija, there is no serious investor who would bring his money to Uganda because they will have the fear of being defrauded.
He says that all Bank of Uganda officials should be suspended over the matter.
This comes after Ms Josephine Mayanja Nkangi, the communications officer to former Prime minister Amama Mbabazi, blamed the currency saga on poor leadership at the Central Bank.
‘I was amused when I heard the story. Ideally, we should have heard the install story from BOU, but it came in reverse. When it comes to situations like this, you have to think about what the story is and who you want to tell it to. For this story, none of this happened. The story was issued under pressure,” she said on Tuesday morning.
” They failed to get together and agree on what is going to be said and who would communicate it, at this point, the story becomes more mysterious. At this point, the story is broken, you’ve said a lot of things the wrong way. The only answered question was, some cargo came on a plane that wasn’t supposed to come, the question is, what is it?” She added.
Meanwhile, the FDC revealed that it successfully nominated Mr. Vicky Emmanuel Onyai as a candidate for the LC V by-election in Nebbi District.
This by-election comes as a result of the death of Hezrone William Alenyo, the former LC V Chairman for Nebbi District that occurred late last year.
The party registered its’ first victory with two district councillors who went through un-opposed by close of nominations on Monday. These include Onega Esther, the District Woman Councillor for Alala and Padwot Sub Counties and Mr. Ongiera Richard the Padwot Sub County District Councillor.
Elections will take place on 11th July 2019.
“The ground is ripe for Mr. Vicky Onyai and all other Party Flag bearers in the new administrative Units in Nebbi district,” Mr Kaija said.
