KAMPALA – OLX Uganda, an online marketplace where you can easily sell and buy all kinds of goods and services, has changed its name to Jiji.ug.
The company announced the change earlier this week and also changed its apps and their listings in the app stores to Jiji.ug.
According to the company, if a person already has an OLX account, they can just sign into Jiji App or log onto the Jiji website using their email, phone number or login, then the account will be automatically transferred to Jiji.ug.
However, existing online customers or users will not be able to recover or retrieve their older messages.
The company has changed both the name and the logo but the app specifications have remained the same.
“Hi everyone! OLX is now Jiji! Please if you are encountering any log-in issues or any other difficulties please check out this FAQ! Thank you!”, reads a recent post by Jiji.
However, various users have complained about the changes saying that they have encountered problems in the process of logging into their accounts but Jiji.ug has assured them that all their issues are being worked on.
“Our tech team has been informed and we are looking forward to resolve this as soon as possible”
Jiji has given some of the guidelines on how to access the website has and encouraged customers not to make any payments before any deliveries are made on Jiji.ug.
They assured their online clients that via Jiji, there is now an easier way to buy everything one needs, regardless of their location in Uganda.
In 2018, OLX.co.ug had confirmed that it was to shut down its operations in Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria.
A source from the once-popular online platform has revealed that it was time to change their mode of operation and re-strategize.
OLX has faced the brunt of mistrust and credibility issues as many online buyers and sellers encountered various challenges ranging from fake products and shady dealers (impostors) who conduct fraudulent online transactions hence duping unsuspecting buyers to the detriment of the website – this has severely damaged OLX’s credibility – which has compelled the proprietors to conduct the re-branding process.
