KAMPALA — The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has fully booked the Uganda Airlines to fly Uganda Cranes team to Nairobi for the International Friendly match between Kenya and Uganda on Sunday September 8.
The team will according to airline officials fly out on Friday Morning 6AM.
Each of the players and officials will get a return ticket.
President Yoweri Museveni recently ordered all government officials and departments to travel using Uganda Airlines whenever they are going to all destinations it flies to.
An order was contained in a cabinet memo dated August 5, 2019.
It says that the president had directed all government officials in ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals to fly on Uganda Airlines to all destinations it would be flying to once the airline commences operations.
All cabinet ministers and ministers of state must ensure this directive is carried out, the memo reads.
Uganda Airlines started commercial operations on August 28, 2019, with a flight to Nairobi.
It has since had flights to Juba, South Sudan, Mogadishu in Somalia and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania over last days.
All these had few people on board, which was plausible given that the airline is just starting.
Meanwhile Uganda Cranes interim early this week named a 25 man squad for the international friendly that will help both countries prepare for international engagements.
The buildup will also prepare some of the players for the two-legged 2020 CHAN Qualifiers against Burundi and the 2021 AFCON campaign that starts in November when Uganda Cranes takes on Burkina Faso and Malawi.
The squad includes some of the players that were part of the national team side that featured in the 2019 AFCON Finals in Egypt while others are local-based players.
The local players will train on today (Thursday morning) at the StarTimes Stadium before flying out the following day in the morning while the foreign-based stars will connect from their clubs direct to Kenya.
