NAMUGONGO – Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has sealed off Daddy’s Pride bakery in Jjanda Namugongo for baking and selling uncertified bread and Mandazi, and operating in poor hygienic conditions, contrary to the UNBS Act.
The packaging of bread found at the premises had different brand names; Litarian Bakers and Kampala Sweet Bread.
Owned by Jotena Company Limited, directors have been summoned to UNBS offices for legal action.
UNBS says that following a tip-off from Kakensa Media, a local media platform famous for its online social media posts, it inspected another bakery in the same area, Queen’s bakery.
The Authority says that the bakery was found not in operation, but under very poor hygienic conditions.
“Some of the packaging found at the premises had brand names; Litarian bakery, living bakery and Savana cakes,” said UNBS in a statement.
UNBS officials recommended a suspension of the bakery activities and summoned the owners to the offices for legal action.
The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body responsible for developing and promoting standards, quality products and services to facilitate fair trade, promote local industries and protect consumers.
