KAMPALA — With only one day left to the 10th Annual Directors and Company Secretaries virtual conference scheduled for 23rd June, we bring you the profiles of the speakers lined up for the engagement under the theme “Corporate Governance: The key to business resilience”.

Emmanuel Katongole
Emmanuel Katongole is a Ugandan entrepreneur who currently serves as the Executive Chairman and Shareholder of Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Ltd a company which manufactures HIV/AIDS and Anti-Malaria drugs in a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at Luzira Industrial Park. Previously, Emmanuel served as Managing Director and shareholder of Quality Chemicals Limited, a life sciences company in Uganda dealing in importation and distribution of Animal healthcare products, Environmental science products and Human pharmaceuticals products.
Emmanuel is also the Founder and Chairman of Vero Food Industries-a food and beverage company; Chairman of the Uganda National Oil Company; Chairman of the Advisory Board of London based TLG Capital Ltd; Chairman of the National Response Fund to Covid-19, Board Director of the Presidential CEO Forum, Board Director of Mauritius Union Assurance (MUA) – Uganda and was recently installed as the 5th Chancellor of Nkumba University in Uganda and also conferred the title of Papal Knight by Pope Francis.
He is a Rotarian who has steadily and diligently served as District Governor for Rotary District 9211 which comprises of Tanzania and Uganda and currently serves as Endowment and Major Gifts Advisor for Africa.
He is a multiple Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation.
Besides numerous nominations, Emmanuel has won several business awards.
He was the East African winner and representative at the 2013 Ernst and Young World Entrepreneur of the year Awards held in Monte Carlo and was inducted into the prestigious world Entrepreneur of the year Hall of Fame, bagged the 2012 Africa Business Leadership Award and the 2012 Africa Entrepreneurship Award.
Emmanuel holds a Master of Arts Degree in Economic Policy and Planning and an Honors Bachelor of Statistics degree, both from Makerere University.

Victoria Penrice
Victoria is President of the CGIUKI Board. A Chartered governance professional with over 30 years’ experience she was Group Company Secretary at Seadrill Limited until June 2020. Victoria has experience in a number of sectors and is skilled in corporate governance, project delivery and board leadership, having worked for major listed companies.
Robert Kabushenga
Mr. Kabushenga joined The New Vision as CEO on January 1 2007. Prior to that, he worked as a Legal and Administration Officer of the Monitor Publications Ltd.
He later joined The New Vision where he first worked as Legal Officer, later rising to the position of Company Secretary. Robert also worked as Executive Director of the Uganda Media Center.
Robert is a holder of a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center, Kampala.
He is a member of the Uganda Law Society and a fellow of the Africa leadership Initiative-East Africa, part of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.

Rita Kabatunzi
Rita is a practicing advocate and chartered governance professional employed as Group company secretary at Stanbic Uganda Holdings and formerly Company secretary at Vision Group, both listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange.
Her career in Legal corporate practice spans over 15 years. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute (ICSA) UK, a co-founder of ICSA Uganda Branch and is a member of the Africa List, a mentorship platform for emerging leaders in Africa.
She is an accredited trainer for International Finance Corporation (IFC) with a wealth of training and consultancy experience in Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
Professional interests; Governance, business sustainability, organizational behaviour and innovation.
Rita is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration at Walden University undertaking research on Innovation in SMEs in Uganda. She was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration (Corporate Governance), Commonwealth University and holds a master’s in business administration, Leicester University.

Patrick Bitature
Patrick Bitature is a Ugandan entrepreneur and business thought leader. He is the Chairman of the Simba Group of Companies which he founded in 1998 with the flagship Simba Telecom. Simba Group is now a conglomerate of East African companies spanning telecommunications, Hospitality, Real Estate, Energy, Agriculture, Oil & Gas, and the most recent Healthcare products.
Patrick Bitature serves as the chairman of the boards of Umeme Uganda Ltd, the country’s main energy distributor. He also previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), Private Sector Foundation (PSFU), and Uganda Reinsurance.
He studied at the London School of Accountancy in 1986 and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in the United Kingdom and currently serves as a patron of Alliance of Mayors & Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS in Africa (AMICAALL), CURE Children’s Home Uganda, and Malaria-free Uganda.
He is also the Honorary consulate of Australia in Uganda.
Amos Wekesa
Amos Wekesa, Founder and CEO of Great Lakes Safaris Ltd. and Uganda Lodges Ltd, comes from an inspiring and humble background that reflects the person he is today. He has been promoting Uganda for over 20 years and is privileged to have seen a lot of changes in Uganda and East Africa as a whole. Amos is a well-known advocate for social and economic development through tourism initiatives. He is frequently invited as a key note speaker at international and national conferences and events on topics ranging from economic investment, sustainable tourism, entrepreneurship and youth development. He currently sits as the Chairman of the Presidential Investment Round Table – Tourism Technical Working Group (Phase V & VI). He has addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Entrepreneurship for Development and has been featured on CNN’s accredited and renowned African Voices. He was awarded with a Titan Regional Award and Continental Award in Leisure and Tourism for his success in promoting local tourism in Uganda. Amos continues to be a leading consultant on all matters tourism and an ambassador not just for Great Lakes Safaris and Uganda Lodges but for Uganda as a country.
Peninnah Tibagwa Kasule
Peninnah is a practicing Chartered Secretary and an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda. She is currently Company Secretary of Centenary Rural Development Group Ltd. And of its subsidiary Centenary Bank where she is also the Head of Legal Services.
She started her career in private legal practice, moved into the insurance industry as Company Secretary of United Assurance ( now UAP Old Mutual) before joining Centenary Bank in 2002 to set up the Company Secretarial & in- house legal Division.
Over the span of her career she has been exposed and built strong experience in a broad spectrum of financial services, drafting and negotiation of commercial, financial, and construction contracts. She has provided Leadership and promoted good corporate governance.
Peninnah is the present Chairman on the Board of Trustees of Send-A-Cow Uganda [ a social development and enterprise]. She has also been recently appointed as a Director on the Board of Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (U) SMC Ltd.
