KAMPALA, Uganda — Charles Muwonge, a 28-year-old car mechanic from Wakiso, has emerged as the grand prize winner of Airtel Money’s Vroomula Amajja campaign, driving away in a brand-new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.
The campaign, launched in July by Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited (AMCUL), aimed to reward customers and agents for their loyalty and promote digital financial services.
Over 6,000 winners were announced, with 4,050 customers winning digital cash prizes through daily, weekly, and monthly draws. Additionally, 117 customers received motorbikes, while 585 agents were recognized for increasing transaction volumes and 585 merchants for promoting digital payments nationwide.
Muwonge expressed gratitude to Airtel Money, urging Ugandans to use the platform. “This promotion is genuine, not a scam. I never expected to win, but Airtel Money has changed my life.”
Japheth Aritho, AMCUL Managing Director, congratulated Muwonge and other winners. “We rewarded our loyal customers who’ve been with us for a long time. Our goal was to ensure everyone has access to financial services and promote digital payments.”
David Birungi, Airtel’s Public Relations Manager, emphasized the campaign’s focus on moving away from cash transactions. “Airtel Money is secure, borderless, and convenient. We encourage Ugandans to adopt digital payments for their daily needs.”
The campaign distributed over UGX 1.5 billion in rewards, promoting financial inclusion and a cashless economy.
“This campaign has revolutionized how Ugandans think about digital transactions,” Aritho noted. “We’ve seen an unprecedented surge in digital transactions, with more Ugandans embracing Airtel Money for utility payments, merchant transactions, and other services.”
Vroomula Amajja’s success is expected to boost Uganda’s digital payment landscape.
