KAMPALA, Uganda — dfcu Bank has tapped Hope Lorna Nakhayenze, a seasoned risk management expert, as its new Chief Risk Officer, effective March 1.
The appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the bank’s risk management practices, amid increasing regulatory scrutiny in Uganda’s banking sector.
Nakhayenze brings 17 years of experience in risk management, internal controls, and compliance to her new role. She has previously worked at Ecobank Uganda Limited, I&M Bank (Uganda) Limited, Stanbic Bank, Barclays Bank, Hima Cement, and AH Consulting.
As Chief Risk Officer, Nakhayenze will oversee risk management for the bank, developing and implementing a risk management framework to measure, report, and control financial and non-financial risks.
Nakhayenze is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant and a Treasurer with the Association of Corporate Treasurers. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Makerere University.
The Bank of Uganda has been pushing for banks to strengthen their risk management capabilities, and dfcu Bank’s appointment of Nakhayenze is seen as a response to this call.
