Kampala, Uganda – EcoBank Uganda has launched a groundbreaking partnership with digital payment platform SurePay to streamline school fee payments.
The innovative collaboration, announced at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala, introduces a free, secure, and user-friendly platform for schools, students, and parents to collect and manage school fees easily.
Elizabeth Mwerinde Kassedde, Head of Commercial Banking at EcoBank Uganda, emphasized the transformative impact of the partnership. “Today, EcoBank and SurePay come together to drive customer-centricity and excellence in service delivery. This milestone supports easier, more convenient digital payment solutions while ensuring a stable ecosystem for the education sector.”
The initiative introduces automated reconciliation tools, real-time student record updates, and expanded access to financing for schools. EcoBank has committed up to UGX 1 billion for school asset expansion and working capital, alongside tailored financial solutions for women-owned schools.
Managing Director of EcoBank, Grace Muriisa, highlighted the broader societal benefits of supporting the education sector. “In educated societies, people are more likely to support the vulnerable, make informed decisions, and contribute to economic stability.”
Muriisa noted that the partnership aims to onboard 300 new schools to EcoBank’s banking network this year, leveraging SurePay’s experience in managing school ecosystems. “By partnering and pooling our resources, we can achieve a greater impact and bring meaningful, lasting change.”
Moses Okiror, CEO of SurePay, thanked EcoBank for partnering with them. “We are committed to driving this agenda, to make sure that we digitalize all the schools in Uganda through EcoBank.”
Okiror explained that SurePay streamlines school payments by onboarding schools after they open an account in EcoBank. “It offers multiple payment options, including the Ecobank Mobile App, Quick Teller-Interswitch, over-the-counter services, and ABC Agents nationwide, ensuring convenience for all users.”
The launch event was attended by teachers, headteachers, and staff from various schools, who explored how SurePay will enhance efficiency and strengthen their relationship with parents.
