KAMPALA – After a 5-years break, the Royal Ascot Goat Races is back in town this weekend.
Furnished with glamour and pomp, the event attracts the A-listers, city’s socialites and other party animals to the shores of Lake Victoria at the magnificent Speke Resort, Munyonyo.
It’s a reason for the city party animals to smile.
The organisers of the comeback event led by Sheena Ruparelia -daughter to business mogul, Sudhir Ruparelia – have vowed that unlike the prior Ascot Goat Races, this edition will be graced by fun-filled activities such as the Silent Disco, Chill-Out Lounges – for revellers to mingle, and so much more.
Ms Naiya Ruparelia, one of the lead organisers, disclosed that proceeds from this Edition will go to charity and in particular to the Toto’s Tag Rugby and Outreach Program to enable children to learn the sport.
According to the organisers, the biggest prize for revellers is a return ticket for the best-dressed couple to Dubai courtesy of Emirates Airlines.
The best-dressed man and best-dressed lady will be winning accommodation for two for one night at Speke Resort Munyonyo and Protea Hotel Entebbe, respectively.
The best-dressed child will win a free pony camp treat at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

One of fashion characteristics of goat races in the previous edition were the elaborate hats and the person with the best hat this time round will win a free outfit from the Halo collections.
The owner of the goat with the best name will win a special dinner for two at Serena Kigo. Already singer Bebe Cool has created a buzz for naming his goat A-pass, who happens to be his music nemesis.
There will also be other competitions throughout the day coming from a selection of photo uploads that will be posted online. The best group selfie will win a gift hamper from Uganda Breweries. The best goat impression will win a dinner for two from Sips and Bites while the best cute group selfie will win a couple massage sponsored by Calabash Spa.
The event will have a glam cam area organised by Posh Junction where they will award the best female pose with a prize of hair and nail treatment worth Shs250,000. The best male pose will walk away with a free men’s grooming worth Shs100,000 and the best mother and daughter pose will be treated to a free hair and braiding session.
“The goat races are definitely a must-attend show for everyone and all these prizes up for grabs have added to the excitement. As Tusker Malt, we are happy to be a part of the team that has brought this unique package that is surely going to be talked about for the rest of the year,” says Grace Namutebi, Brand Manager, Premium Beers at UBL.
There are more fun activities to look forward to with food and drinks, including a silent disco to be hosted by Sue Ochola, Posh Junction VIP treatments, a champagne bar and of course, plenty of seating by the lakeside for everyone in attendance to chill, eat and drink.

The crowd will be entertained by Fik Fameika, Simples Entertainment and Bebe Cool before the event closes with a fireworks display.
Gates to the event will open at noon with seven sets of goat races with 10 goats participating in each starting at 1.30pm and proceeding throughout the day.
Tickets are being sold at Shs50,000 at selected selling points including The Cube, Speke Apartments, Kabira Country Club, Speke Hotel, Speke Resort Munyonyo, and Liquid Silk as well as online on Quicket.
The comeback 2018 Royal Ascot Goat Race has attracted numerous partners like Tusker Malt – a Uganda Breweries Ltd product – as the main sponsor, alongside other partners – Silk Events, Sanyu FM and most notably, Kampala Executive Aviation. Kampala Executive Aviation announced a special offer to the revellers that added a new twist to the Royal Ascot Goat Races for this year — a private charter to the venue.
