
KAMPALA – It was a moment of tears and grief as the news broke the world that Ugandan vocalist, songwriter and singer Mowzey Radio real name Ssekibogo Moses had passed on.
On Friday 25th February 2019, the late Radio would have made 34 years and many artists took it upon themselves to wish the singer a happy birthday.
In his memory, fellow artistes organized a listening party dubbed ‘Mowzey Radio listening party’ that took place at DNA lounge in Kololo, a bar owned by Jose Chameleon
Today, February 1 the singer makes exactly one year since he died.
Many artistes have shared different memories in respect of their colleague
Benon, a producer at Swangz Avenue said, “Radio is the only artiste that would sing with emotions that those who never worked with him may not understand. We miss him.”
For Cinderella Sanyu alias Cindy, she misses the protective radio. “Mowzey radio was the best songwriter. Besides, he was the only artiste that would sing for hours without losing his breath.”|
“Radio never wrote me any song, however, he inspired me into the industry. He had a very nice voice and indeed I miss him,” said Ykee Benda.
Rema Namakula said” I miss his voice, I miss his everything, I miss him so much. Sometimes I imagine if he was here, you would see his reaction on these laws.”
Last year February 1 in Entebbe, Mowzey Radio breathed last following the 22nd January 2018 bar brawl at De-Bar where he sustained nasty head injuries that left him bedridden at Case Hospital until the day he passed on. He was laid to rest on February 3, in Nakawuka, Entebbe.
Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo, also known as Mowzey Radio, was a Ugandan musician. He was one of the main performers of the Ugandan music group Goodlyfe Crew together with Jose Chameleone’s brother Weasel Manizo real name Douglas Sseguya.
Radio released his first solo song, “Tujja Kuba Wamu” in 2004 while at Makerere University where he completed a degree in Community psychology, before joining the Leone Island Music Empire in 2005. He started as a backup singer along with Weasel behind Jose Chameleone. He had first success in the year 2005 after he had released a reggae love song called “Jennifer”, the official stage video for that song was filmed by Ugandan music promoter DJ Erycom.
In 2006, Mowzey Radio released another song titled “Sweet Lady”, another well-received song that introduced him to a large fan base in Uganda. In October 2007, Mowzey Radio, Weasel and Jose Chameleone toured the United States and the Caribbean. Before they returned home, Radio and Weasel had misunderstandings with Chameleone. Following disagreements between Chameleone and the two, they quit the group and formed Goodlyfe Crew, who became successful. Their first song was “Nakudata”, followed by “Ngamba” and others. He made music collaborations with musicians such as Rabadaba in the song “Ability” together with Weasel, produced by Just Jose.
In his singing career, he did collaborations with both local and international artists winning awards and several nominations including the BET nominations.
Radio and Weasel had many hits, including Ability, Bread and Butter, Hellenah ft David Lutalo, Juice Juicy, Lwaki Onnumya, Magnetic, Mr DJ, Ngenda Maaso, Nyambula, Nyumbani, Obudde, Potential, Sitaani, Zuena, and many others.
