
KAMPALA – On Friday, September 13, 36 Miss Tourism contestants were unveiled at Serena Hotel. The radiant beauties were scouted from twelve regions across the country including; Ankole, Busoga, Buganda, Eastern, Bunyoro, Karamoja, West Nile, Tooro, Acholi among others to compete in the grand finale.
The beauty queens were paraded and got on the walkway in a cultural introduction which climaxed in a parade.
Mr. Allan Kanyike Bwatte, the Chief Executive Director of Miss Tourism Uganda thanked the parents, contestants and audience for standing with them since the launch on June 10, up to date and encouraged them to always to be goodwill tourism ambassadors.
Ms.Sarah Kagingo, the Chairperson, Miss Tourism Uganda said;
“I welcome you to this year’s edition with the theme “African pride”. Uganda is a good country and we are looking for contestants who will sell and market the country. Our culture is very diverse with stunning beauty and very honored as a tourism enthusiast to be apart of this and I encourage all you to market the country to the rest of the world using all your social media platforms.”
“This is the time we get to unite as a country and beyond. At this pageant we must have a lady who understands well the country, May the best contestants win!
I call upon you to turn up on October 4, for the grand finale to support your regions as we have miss tourism who will represent the Pearl of Africa.” Ms.Kagingo added.
As they were unveiled, their supporters cheered them in their respective local languages with placards displaying some names of the contestants, dressed in T-shirts with their portraits while others blew vuvuzelas and chanted with excitement.
The unveiling attracted numerous sponsors that included; Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities, Uganda Wildlife Educational Centre ( UWEC), Breeze Serenity, Uganda Tourism Association, Kidepo National Park, Humura Safaris Uganda, among others.
