KAMPALA – Socialite Charles Olim popularly known as Sipapa yesterday evening allegedly attacked National Unity Platform headquarters in Kamwokya and fired bullets.
Reports from the premises show that the socialite who was in company of police shot at the NUP offices injuring one staff at the gate.
“Sipapa and his armed goons at it again! They have attacked and shot at our NUP Secretariat injuring one of our security guards Ronnie. All this was done under the watch of police,” Nubian Li posted on his Facebook account.
Police fired teargas to disperse the people at headquarters who had gotten rowdy following the shooting and Sipapa’s attempts of mounting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag just opposite the NUP offices.
The socialite before the brawl said he was heading to Kamwokya to allegedly deliver the remaining consignment of machines he had promised them for their washing bay.
“I want to pass by Kamwokya, I am from Katwe. I want to give them the remaining machines like water pumps and car washing machines and uniforms. I am also going to Kasokoso after here because people there are in dire need. I do this as a good citizen.”
According to the socialite, he cannot stop going to Kamwokya because although there are People Power youths who believe Bobi Wine will become president and help, there are those who willingly want his help so he has to pass by whenever he can.
“It’s the dwellers that bring the commotion. If you are running for a political position, that does not make you own a road, the Kamwokya road is owned by the public but Bobi Wine does not want anyone to pass where he is. How would he feel if he is denied using routes in Kololo, Nakasero and Najjanankumbi. I am not a politician and I care less about such issues,”Sipapa explained.
Although he did not report the matter to police, Sipapa’s car was seen vandalised most prominently on the windscreen and headlights.
This is the second time Sipapa is getting confrontational with NUP supporters at their Kamwokya based premises.
A month ago, Sipapa who was in the company of his two other colleagues, armed but clad in casual outfits, packed in the middle of the road and when road users peacefully asked them to clear the way, they responded by firing live bullets.
Police later came out and revealed how it had summoned Sipapa and all the eye witnesses.
