KAMPALA – Veteran band music singer Ronald Mayinja has publically pledged his support for the National Resistance Movement presidential Flag bearer Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming general elections.
Mayinja says he is going to support Museveni in 2021 because he has done a lot of good things for Uganda.
“I will vote for him until 2040. He’s got the vision for this country. He’s the only man who can lead Uganda to prosperity and transform the lives of the citizens,” Mayinja said.
The singer also blasted the National Unity Platform, a party he has since been associated with after he went and picked the membership card. He described them as hooligans and ganja people that have no knowledge about leadership.
A few months back, Mayinja apologized to NUP principal and fellow musicaian Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine for changing camps and officially asked to join the National Unity Platform (NUP). Bobi Wine welcomed him in at his party headquarters in Kamwokya and handed him the party card.
However, now according to Mayinja, NUP is a bunch of noise makers who cannot add any value to the progress of Uganda.
“NUP just makes noise and kills innocent people. They are actually more dangerous than Museveni. They don’t deserve any leadership position in Uganda. They are very confused and tough so murderous to manage the affairs of this country,” he said.
He added that they (NUP) are very harsh and intolerant and called upon the people not to vote for them.
“We need our country under good people. Museveni is the answer to Uganda’s problems.”
For long Mayinja has been rumored to be an NRM loyalist but he kept on denying. It was reported that he was paid over Shs300 million and a V8 Landcruiser to cross from NUP to NRM, allegations that he has since termed baseless.
Earlier this year, Mayinja was criticized by Robert Kyagulanyi’s supporters for meeting with President Museveni at his Kasozi state lodge although the singer denied the allegations. He later accepted and apologized to Bobi Wine as he made a U-turn.
While at the party headquarters in Kamwokya, Mayinja explained himself and requested Bobi Wine and his loyal fans to forgive him for betraying them.
In his defense, he said that he only went to meet Museveni to collect some crucial information from him.
“I met President Museveni and asked him if he still has plans for the country but let me tell you the truth. Having a one on one with grandpa, it was clear to me that he no longer has plans for us. I apologize for accepting to meet Museveni but I belong here, I am so sorry for offending you my people,” Mayinja said.
The singer further denied receiving a ‘fat’ envelope or car from the President, and assured NUP fans that he didn’t make a return because he wants to stand for any political position, but instead to assist the party into reaching its set goals.
The Bizeemu singer also finally revealed his true colors after releasing a new campaign song praising President Museveni and asking his fans to vote for him.
For about two years now, Ronald Mayinja has been in and out of NRM and People Power, switching colors and confusing his fan and followers.
With just a few days remaining to the opening of presidential campaigns, Mayinja has released this new song dubbed ‘Muzeeyi Akalulu kako’ for Museveni.
In the song, Mayinja heaps praises on Museveni as the best president he has ever seen in Uganda and he believes that he is a gift from God to Ugandans.
“Museveni you have done everything for Ugandans and this term my vote is yours. Museveni you’re better than all the presidents that have ruled Uganda, you have built hospitals, roads and many others. You’re really blessed and we love you,” some of the song lyrics read.
Following the release of the song, the Tuli ku Bunkenke singer was highly castigated by supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) who labeled him a hypocrite and a money minded traitor given the fact that he had just returned to the party from NRM a few months ago.
The singer in an interview with a local TV also revealed why he praised President Yoweri Museveni in his new song where he was rallying Ugandans to vote for the President in 2021 general elections.
Mayinja defended himself saying he is a musician who is focused on making money. He said as a musician, he decided to be neutral so that he offers his services to all people irrespective of their political affiliations.
“I realized that as a singer, I have to make money to survive so I decided to sing for anyone who pays for my services. I will not disclose how much I was paid to sing for President Museveni but even you if you want I can sing for you as long as you pay me,”Mayinja said.
” Even if Bobi Wine wants a song from me, I can sing for me. I have no problem with that,” he added.
When asked if he still belongs to the National Unity Platform, the singer disclosed that right now he is focusing on his career and he doesn’t want anything to do with politics.
“Since I’m not standing for any political office, I want to focus on my career as a singer. All politicians have their hidden agendas and when I realised that politics is not my thing, I decided to become a neutral musician,” he said.
Mayinja is a name to reckon with in Uganda’s music industry. His music record spans decades and he has a number of songs to his name. Mayinja is also known for political satire songs like Bunkenke, Ensi Yaffe, Africa, Landlord and Bizeemu.
