
LAGOS – The third season of the Miss African Golden pageant came to an end with Uganda’s Miss Pamela Aleper being crowned Miss Africa Golden 2020 in a glamorous event that was held in Lagos Nigeria.
Aleper defeated 29 other contestants in the race to emerge the 2020 Pageant winner at the dazzling grand finale held at the luxurious Bespoke Event Center in Lagos, on the night of Friday, 20th November. She becomes the first Ugandan to win the crown.
Miss Pamela who is of the Karamoja origin and a final-year law student at Uganda Christian University that has only practiced Law at the internship level first hit the beauty pageant stage in 2016 during the Miss Tourism contest, where she started off as Miss Tourism Karamoja, and later emerging as 2nd Runner Up at Miss Tourism Uganda.
As rewards for the crown, the new beauty queen was given a two thousand dollar cheque and a brand new Ford Edge SUV courtesy of Chidi Mike Motors CMC, Nigeria.
Ms Bernice Ibeziako from Nigeria emerged as the first runner up while Ms Naza Spectanaza also from Nigeria ended up as the second runner up.
The Uganda Christian University final year law student succeeds Miss Amanda Akunne from Morocco who won the title in 2019 and she now becomes the brand ambassador of Chidi Mike Motors (CMC).
Upon her return to Uganda, Aleper revealed that during her one-year tenure, she is going to focus on fighting child trafficking, especially in Karamoja region, and making sure that street children are saved off the streets.
“There are a lot of children being trafficked in Uganda and mostly in Karamoja. This is something I plan to fight, with the help of former Miss Africa and the government of Uganda. I also intend to save street children, especially those from Karamoja off the streets,” she said.
She also described how difficult the journey to her victory was, especially when it came to funding. Aleper urged the government through the Ministry of Tourism to strengthen support towards such contests that continue to fly the flag of Uganda higher.
“I would like to thank the people of Uganda and my family for voting for me and ensuring that I go through the preliminary rounds of the competition which enabled me win the contest eventually,” Aleper says
In some of her other new roles, Aleper will also represent the Miss African Golden International brand on the continent. Aside from winning the Miss Africa Golden 2020, Aleper also holds the title Miss Popularity after she gathered the most votes in an online poll that ran before the pageant.
Miss Africa Golden International Pageant is fast rising to become Africa’s pride in beauty and pageantry. It is an inclusive, global pageant organization created to empower young women of Africa Descent regardless of race.
The pageant also looks to promote originality, culture, and Tourism on the continent. The pageant had participants from over 15 countries including; Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, and Botswana.
