MAKINDYE – Singer Ronald Mayinja has confirmed re-joining the Makindye based local music group, the Golden Band.
The renowned band and Kadongo Kamu folk musician had recently left the band alleging that he too busy to keep in the group as he resumed his studies at Makerere University. Now after two weeks of quitting, Mayinja has confirmed coming back to the band after negotiations.
“I have had a lot of work to do. At times we could organize shows which required us to go very far and I could fail to turn up which caused misunderstandings within the band”, he said
Mayinja adds on that he wanted to inform his fellow colleagues before that he may quit, but this came into his mind in the middle of the year when the band had already issued out its year programme.
“So I decided to inform them at the beginning of this year so that they know what is taking place because I am a student and I had assignments to do at campus, then these political tasks. Now we have negotiated that if they announce me for a show somewhere and I fail to turn-up, am not to blame. But in case am free and they need me, I can join them and we work.” He confirms
He adds that he had signed quitting the band but when they met, the director requested him to continue working with the band and he accepted.
“During the meeting, I requested them to let me quit the leadership post I hold in the band but they have however confirmed they are not signing me out. So we have come to the conclusion that I will be singing in my free time in case they need me”, Mayinja added
Mayinja is popularly known for songs like ‘Tuli ku Bunkenke’ (Situation is tense), ‘Tuwalana Nguzi’ (We are against corruption), ‘Africa! Ani agula ensi’ (Africa is up for sale) and ‘Sente y’ekibi’ (evil money) among others.
