
NEW YORK – US-based Ugandan rapper Ernest Nsimbi alias GNL Zamba has won Best Worldbeat Award for his song ‘Leo Ni Leo’ that took place on June 22nd.
“We took home the award for Best Worldbeat Song for Leo Ni Leo & had the audience up dancing when we closed out the ceremony with our live performance at the Independent Music Awards,” revealed 32-year-old rapper.
“We were excited to win our first International award as a cross-cultural duo especially for our fans all over the world and World music culture as a whole ? Thanks to the Independent Music Awards for also allowing us the opportunity to rock the stage closing Finale @nsimbimusic,” he added.
Zamba was nominated in the categories of; Best Debut Album – Nsimbi, Best Worldbeat Song – Leo Ni Leo, Best Spoken Word – Acholi Boy, and Best Narrative Music Video – Dunia Ni Matembezi.
This year’s event took place at the Symphony Space – 2537 Broadway, New York City on June 22nd.
GNL Zamba is a popular and influential hip hop artist in Uganda, credited with bringing rap and Lugaflow style of music to mainstream radio and other media in Uganda. His stage name, GNL, is short for “Greatness No Limits.
