KAMPALA – Tanzanian Bongo Flava star Diamond Platinumz has had what one would term as a successful musical year in 2020.
The singer who was recently awarded by the Tanzanian President for his contribution to the country’s entertainment industry also managed to garner huge numbers from YouTube this year making him the most subscribed to artist in Africa.
News coming in now is that the ‘Jeje’ singer has teamed up with Congolese legendary artist Koffi Olomide to work on a musical collaboration under his WCB Wasafi Records.
The song dubbed Waah is a fusion of Bongo-flava and Congolese soukous musical roots with a simple blend of stunning Afrobeat drums.
The new ballad is entirely a Wasafi Records (WCB) project done by the studio official producer Iraju Hamisi Mjege better known as Lizer Classic.
The ‘Ekotite’ singer earlier this week flew to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania to complete some mega musical projects with the Wasafi boss.
During his stay in Tanzania, he has visited several businesses owned by Diamond Platnumz and one of them is his multi-million contemporary recording studio where they happen to have sealed the Waah song.
Koffi’s days in Tanzania are apparently expected to be quite lengthy than he had earlier anticipated as his management and Diamond’s after working tirelessly to also have the Waah video shot sooner.
Diamond Platnumz, is arguably one of the finest musicians of his generation in East Africa. The singer who also doubles as a dancer also has a recording label with a number of artists to his name.
Over the last 10 years, the award-winning musician has popularized “bongo flava” a uniquely Tanzanian offering: romantic melodies with an urban beat influenced by traditional taarab music from the East African coast.
Three months ago, Diamond Platinumz made history by becoming the first artist in sub-Saharan Africa to clock more than 1 billion views on his YouTube Channel.
