KAMPALA – Nigeria’s multi-award winning songstress Yemi Eberechi Alade, professionally known as Yemi Alade, over the weekend jetted in the Pearl of Africa. The diva was ushered in by singer Big Size Bebe Cool.
The Gagamel Music Band CEO took to his social media pages to welcome the ‘Jonny’ singer to the Pearl of Africa.
Bebe Cool who months back scooped a music collabo from the West African music power horse shared pics through his socials of the latter while boarding for a flight in a UPDF helicopter in the company of his wife Zuena Kirema.
“A warm welcome for the Nigerian singer to Uganda.Welcome to Uganda Yemi Alade. It’s Road to #MAMA2021,” Bebe Cool captioned the photo on his socials.
It is no surprise that the ‘Wakayima’ singer is the one that welcomed her since he has previously gotten a chance to work with her on a musical collaboration.
A few months back, Bebe Cool revealed that he had worked on a collaboration with Yemi Alade.
“I did two songs with two big artists in Nigeria. One is Rudeboy and another one with Yemi,” he said.
Although it is not clear what she is here for, it is believed that the diva is in the country to set the mood as we gear up for the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAS) that will be going down in Kampala city in February 2021.
Yemi is a name to reckon with musically on the African continent. She won the Peak Talent Show in 2009 after which she signed to Effyzzie Music Group, and had a hit with her single “Johnny” in 2014.
The Diva later won the MTV African Music Awards for Best female in 2015 and 2016 consecutively and was nominated for Artiste of the Year in 2015, making her the first female to win the MAMAs for Best female consecutively twice and nominated for Artiste of the Year.
In 2015, Alade was the first Nigerian female to be nominated for the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in the Best African Act category. She was also nominated for the BET awards for Best International act: Africa in 2015 and 2016.
Yemi is also applauded for her creative and overwhelming stage performances, fashion and music videos. She has won The Headies Award for Best Performer twice, 2018 and 2019.
The slot (best performer) was initiated at The Headies 2018 and she was the first artiste to win the category.
She sings in English, Igbo, Pidgin, Yoruba, French, Swahili and Portuguese. Her music has been of influence in many African countries and the world as she is acclaimed ‘Mama Africa’ for her versatility in using different African languages and attires in her songs and music videos.
