LAGOS – African as a continent was made proud on Sunday night as Nigerian stars, Burna Boy (Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu) and Wizkid (Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun), won their first-ever Grammy Awards.
Burna Boy bagged the much-coveted Grammy award in the Best Global Album category for his ‘TWICE AS TALL’ album making it the second consecutive time he has been nominated for the Grammys after his previous album ‘African Giant’ received a nod in the Best World Music Album category at the 62nd Grammy Awards.
Wizkid on the other hand won a Grammy for the Best Music Video for his role in Beyonce’s 2019 hit song ‘Brown Skin Girl’.
Receiving the nod, Burna Boy said, “This is a big win for my generation of African all over the world. And this should be a lesson for every African out there: no matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it. No matter where you are from, because you are a king.”
The 63rd annual awards were held in Los Angeles as hosted by Trevor Noah on Sunday and here is the full list of winners:
