KAMPALA – Uganda’s Ministry of Health has issued a periodic update on the Ebola outbreak, reporting a total of 10 confirmed cases as of March 1, 2025. Unfortunately, two cases, including the index case and a four-and-a-half-year-old child, have succumbed to the disease.
The child, a resident of Kibuli, was linked to the primary cluster and presented classical symptoms of Ebola at Mulago hospital on February 25, 2025. Despite this setback, the Ministry of Health has made significant progress in containing the outbreak.
On February 18 and 19, 2025, eight recovered Ebola survivors were discharged from hospitals in Kampala and Mbale and reintegrated into their communities. These individuals have resumed their normal lives, demonstrating the effectiveness of Uganda’s Ebola response efforts.
The Ministry of Health continues to implement aggressive measures to combat the outbreak, including contact tracing, management, and vaccination of all contacts linked to the case. Heightened surveillance efforts are also in place, featuring active case searches at all health facilities, exit screening for outbound travelers, and intensified public messaging on presentation and prevention.
Dr. Olaro Charles, Acting Director General of Health Services, reassures the public that the Ebola outbreak is under control and Uganda remains safe for trade, travel, and tourism. The Ministry urges travelers to adhere to health guidelines and protocols, such as regular hand washing and avoiding unnecessary body contact.
In related news, Uganda has entered a crucial 42-day countdown to determine whether the outbreak will be officially declared over. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been supporting Uganda’s response efforts, and the country has made significant progress in containing the outbreak.
