
Brig Octavious Buturo yesterday took over as the new General Manager Luwero Industries, replacing Maj Gen James Mugira.
Luwero Industries is a UPDF firm involved in the production of ammunitions and repair of rifles. The firm also manufactures spare parts of military equipment, portable water and carpentry products, among others.
The firm was established in 1992and is a subsidiary of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC).
In 1995, Parliament passed a new statute which mandated NEC to produce goods and services for the Defense Forces own consumption.
The handover/ take over function was presided over by the Minister of State for Defence in Charge of General Duties Col. (rtd) Charles Angola Okello.
Buturo, while addressing the staff, commended Mugira for successfully revamping Luwero Industries since his appointment in January 2012.
Luwero Industries was chosen as one of the centres of excellence for the EAC Defence Industries.
Okello implored the new general manager to strive and raise the bar higher by ensuring improved quality of products.
Maj Gen Charles Lutaaya, the Commander Airforce who represented the UPDF congratulated Brig Buturo upon this appointment and urged him to improve on the skills of the personnel in order to achieve better results.
The ceremony which involved a tour of the industrial complex was attended among others the Air Defence Commander Maj Gen Gervase Mugyenyi and Brig Geoffrey Katsigazi, the Land Forces Chief of Staff.
