KAMPALA–Gunmen have today morning raided Mponye Police Post in Kabalagala, a Kampala surburb and taken off with a gun and 30 rounds of ammunition.
Four of the gunmen have been arrested, according to information obtained by this website.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Emilian Kayima said the assailants injured Constables Dickens Alado and Dickens Kasozi who were manning the police post.
He said the 1am incident occurred when the commander of the post, ASP Emmanuel Kanusu, was conducting a patrol operation.
Kanusu later returned only to discover that five panga-wielding men had attacked the police post with intention to steal weapons.
“The attackers just walked into the station and Kasozi unknowingly tried to attend to them,” Kanusu said.
One of the men pulled out a panga, compelling Kasozi to reach out for his SMG gun registration numberUGPOL48009097.
The attacker cut Kasozi’s fingers and injured his neck before taking off with the gun.
Kayima said sniffer dogs were mobilized and led police to a private residence where four of the five suspects were found.
The suspects have been identified as Timothy Lutalo, Moses Nyeko, Meddy Bale and Alex Kamugisha.
The guard at the private residence reportedly confirmed that the suspects entered through the gate after he had heard gunshots.
Kayima said police is working hard to recover the missing gun, adding that the Flying Squad unit of the police is leading the investigations.
Cases of armed men attacking police posts have been on the rise in recent years, with police losing dozens of guns.
