
KAMPALA–City businessman and political commentator Frank Gashumba who was arrested Monday morning was last evening paraded before journalists together with Innocent Kasumba at the UPDF headquaters in Mbuya clad in a white under shirt , khaki trousers and barefooted.
The two are accused of impersonation to fleece an investor disguising themselves as representatives of Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs under Flagship group, a company that is purported to be contracted by Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs.They were arrested after the Permanent Secretary Ministry Of Defense and Veteran Affairs was tipped off.
“The fraudsters under the cover of a company name called Flagship Group purpoted to be contracted by Ministry of Defense for outsourcing had invited the investor to Golden Tulip Hotel for a meeting over a purported deal to supply UPDF with 100 truck,” said deputy spokesperson Lt. Col Deo Akiki, while speaking to journalist at Mbuya Military headquarters.
The combined investigation with Ministry Of Defense and Police saw the involvement of Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force that arrested Nasser Mukungu , an alleged counterpart of Kasumba who was arrested on scene. A Police case file was opened up on the group at CPS vide ref CPS KLA CRB1456/2017. Mukungu was granted police bond.
Kasumba was arrested on Saturday and police conducted a search on his residence and at Gashumba’s office which yielded in the discovery of several items that included 20 stamps, including the one of Stanbic Bank, Ministry Of Defense and Veteran Affairs, multiple identification documents, his two passports with separate identities and a passport of Gashumba Frank in the name of Ssenyondo Frank Disans-Passport NO B0892687 and another in the name of Gashumba Frank Malingumu- Passport NO B0958085.

On top of that , there were drugs displayed for the media as part of what was found in Gashumba’s possession.
“He works closely with some lawyers in smarter way to cover his evil ways and mainly of recent one Geoffrey Nsamba of Nsamba & Company advocates,” Akiki said.
According to documents recovered, the groups have been targeting mainly South Sudanese government departments and ministries including Stanbic bank branches in South Sudan. Investigations are jointly conducted and the duo are held at PSU kireka.
“Their presence at CMI is not that they are detained at CMI, they’re cureently detained at the Special Investigations branch in Kireka. They only come here for the sake of carrying out interrogations because this is a joint interrogation that involves the Ministry of Defense therefore CMI is a stakeholder,” added Lt.Col. Deo Akiki
