KAMPALA–The Members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ruling party have resolved to support MP Raphael Magyezi’s age limit amendment Bill.
During a meeting held on Friday at State House Entebbe convened to discuss the contentious age limit amendment, NEC endorsed the bill that has already been endorsed by the NRM Caucus and Central Executive Committee.
NEC’s position on the Constitutional amendment was revealed by the Communication Officer, Rogers Mulindwa, in a statement.
“After receiving and deeply appreciating the key note address delivered by the Party’s National Chairperson, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and being mindful of the country’s political history, NEC resolved to support the Bill,” part of the statement said.
Just like the CEC meeting on Tuesday on the same agenda, NEC assembly also came up with three similar resolutions.
“Members agreed to enthusiastically join the majority of their colleague Members of NEC who are NRM Members of Parliament in unanimously and overwhelmingly supporting the Bill for an Act entitled the Constitution (Amendment No. 2), Act 2017, moved by Hon. Raphael Magyezi.”
Members also resolved to vigorously share their decision with all the structures and membership of the NRM, as well as the people of Uganda.
They also agreed to “call upon the diversity of the people of Uganda to discuss these matters in mutual respect and tolerance, and in a peaceful and lawful manner.”
