KAMPALA–Dr Kizza Besigye today (Thursday) called upon members in security and military services to do whatever they can to disable the regime.
Addressing journalists at his office at Katonga Road, the former Presidential candidate said the original struggle was “for the soldiers” and therefore they have a duty to disable the current regime.
“… Soldiers should do what they can to disable the regime. It is legitimate to disable a regime of the type we have in Uganda,” Besigye said.
He added that security personnel suffer more than anybody else since they work for 24 hours amid a paltry payment of Shs300,000.
Besigye was reacting to the signing of the age-limit bill into law by President Museveni late last year.
The Act removed presidential age-limits and extended the tenure of elected local leaders from five to seven years.
He called for the boycott of all businesses and corporate entities that support the regime.
“The economic boycott will be widened. If you are supporting the military junta as a business person as a corporate body, you will be risking the wrath of the people of Uganda,” he said.
Besigye announced the formation of a parallel national assembly that he said shall represent the genuine views of the people.
“We shall be launching a national assembly that will include representatives from the 317 constituencies that were betrayed by their supposed representatives. We shall have real people’s representatives. The 317 will be trashed. The people have already done so,” Besigye said.
Besigye was flanked by Patrick Amuriat, the FDC president, Erias Lukwago, the Kampala Lord Mayor and MPs Mubarak Munyagwa, Allan Ssewanyana and Ken Lukyamuzi, the Conservative Party president.
