
KAMPALA–Kampala City Hall Court has further remanded the six men accused of spraying meat and fish with dangerous chemicals.
The six had turned up on Wednesday for their sentencing following their earlier plea in which they admitted to using the harmful chemicals.
However, when the returned today, they requested Kampala City Hall Court Grade One Magistrate Beatrice Khainza to reread to them the charges.
Khainza adjourned the case to today (Thursday) to rule on whether she has powers to reread charges on which suspects already pleaded guilty to.
The six; Erias Kafumbe, Isa Ssenoga , Isma Mutebi, Umar Kalyango, Baker Mulondo and Ibrahim Ssekitto were returned to Luzira prison.
On Wednesday and Thursday last week, KCCA officials arrested the six from areas of Nakasero Market, Nakulabye and Ntinda Market during an operation by KCCA health and law enforcement officers.
During the operation, it was established that the accused spray harmful chemicals on both fish and meat they sell to the public in order to chase away and kill flies.
According to a KCCA prosecutor, the suspects are likely to face two years imprisonment or pay a fine of not less than sh180,000
