By 9pm yesterday (Saturday), CMI is reported to have arrested Abdullah Kitaata, the chairman of Bodaboda 2010 Association.
The reason for Kitaata’s arrest is not yet confirmed but two sources confirmed that he was arrested in Wakaliga, a city suburb.
UPDF’s spokeperson Brig Richard Karemire also confirmed that CMI had arrested some members of the Boda Boda 2010 Association suspected of committing crime.
Kitaata’s arrest followed the arrest by CMI of seven leaders of Boda boda cyclists on Saturday morning at Top Radio, a local radio station located in Bwaise.
Police tried to intervene in the fracas but heavily-armed military men drove away the suspects.
What’s the problem
Last Friday, CMI arrested a member of Boda Boda 2010 Association suspected of being involved in the murder of Case Hospital Accountant Francis Ekalunga.
Ekalunga was kidnapped on his way to bank Shs15m and later his body was discovered burnt beyond recognition in Kajjansi along Entebbe Road.
The arrest of bodaboda rider didn’t go well with fellow colleagues who went on the streets protesting the move.
“The security men arrested an innocent ma. That’s why we demonstrated,” a member of bodaboda association, who preferred anonymity told PML Daily.
The protests started in Natete, a city suburb where the association offices are situated, up to the city centre.
As part of its investigations, CMI raided the association offices. It found army attires, pangas, knives and other deadly weapons.
