KAMPALA–Three police officers accused of kidnapping Rwandan nationals have Tuesday been released on bail by the General Court Martial at Makindye.
They include James Magada, (Crime Intelligence), Faisal Katende (Flying Squad) and Amon Kwarisima on bail.
This was after the trio satisfied the 7 member court chaired by Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti. Ruling on their bail application, he was in agreement that they are junior ranking officers who can neither interfere with on-going CMI investigations nor threaten prosecution witnesses.
He thus released the three after each signing Shs10million non – cash bond and also ordered their sureties to execute bonds of Shs5 million each.
The three officers are expected to report to the registrar of the General Court Martial twice a month and never to travel out of Kampala without permission from court.
Failure to abide by any of the terms will automatically lead to the cancellation of bail, they were warned.
The trio is part of a group of 7 others including; Joel Aguma, Nixon Agasirwe Karuhanga, D/ASP James Magada, Benon Atwebembeirwe, Abel Tumukunde who are still in jail over charges of kidnapping 3 Rwandese nationals and unlawfully handing them over to their country against their will.
The remaining officers and their co-accused have been now sent back on remand at Luzira prison and Makindye military police barracks respectively until the 5th February.
