The General Court Martial has sentenced four men to 10 years in prison each for robbing over Shs500 million from a city forex bureau.
The move came after Henry Kabugo, Moses Kasiita, Jolly Lubega and Sulaiman Waisswa, who have been on remand since 2016, confessed to committing the crime.
The head of the court martial, Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti, in passing the sentences said he “considered the aggravating factors of carrying a firearm in the robbery”.
Prosecution states that on March 3, 2015, at Eso Corner on Jinja road in Kampala District, the accused stole Shs525million from Mr Made Male Kalembe of Spot Forex Bureau using a fire arm, which is a monopoly of the defence forces.
Kabugo was also separately convicted of aggravated robbery of airtime worth Shs132million from a mobile money agent in the city center.
Prosecution told court that on May 1 2013, Kabugo and others still at large on Nakivubo Green street in Kampala District, stole airtime worth Shs100million, calculator, books of accounts and keys from Sunday Venancio. He also stole airtime worth Shs32milion from Eddy Mukasa and then they threatened to use a fire arm, which is a monopoly of the defence forces.
