
Another police officer has lost a gun after being attacked by armed assailants, days after two officers were killed in similar circumstances.
According to Bukedi Region Police spokesperson Sowali Kamulya, armed assailants, who were moving on a motorcycle, shot and injured Stafford Walusansa, who was on duty on Sunday night at a police station in Busia Municipality.
Mr Kamulya said the assailants were using a motorcycle with Kenyan registration numbers and a hunt for them is currently underway.
“He was shot by the two armed assailants, who were putting on the jackets. We have a recovered a pistol from the crime scene, which the assailants used,” he said.
He added that police detectives also recovered a magazine of four live ammunitions, a cartridge, a projectile, a rifle and a watch.
Mr Kamulya said the victim is undergoing treatment at a health centre in the neighboring Kenya.
The incident follows last Thursday’s attack in Kawempe Division, Kampala, when unknown assailants shot dead two police officers attached to Field Force Unit and ran way with their guns.
Vincent Habiyaremye and Ambrose Otim were attacked as they were patrolling Kizza Zone, Kawempe division, according Mr Emilian Kayima, the Police spokesperson.
