Security minister Henry Tumukunde and Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura must solve their misunderstandings away from the media and work together to secure the country, Justice Minister Kahinda Otafiire has urged.
Appearing before Parliament’s Human Rights Committee on Wednesday, Gen Otafiire said the disagreement between the duo will not be solved when it is fought in the media.
“I hear some bit of fraternal quarrel between Lt Gen Tumukunde and Gen Kayihura. Some individuals have difference and unfortunately they put them in the open,” he said.
The disagreement between Gen Tumukunde and Gen Kayihura is said to be over methods of operations, which analysts may out the country’s security at risk.
Last week, President Museveni also expressed concern over the problem of infighting among his security officials, promising that “it be sorted out.”
In calling for reconciliation among the two Bush War comrades, Gen Otafiire alluded to his own misunderstandings with former premier and NRM secretary general Amama Mbabazi.
“We never put it in the open. We used to have a lot of differences but we were civilised. If they have issues, let them sit down and sort them out as old comrades,” he said.
