KAMPALA – Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has warned MPs against discussing the matter surrounding the arrest of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kale Kayihura, saying there is no value Parliament can add to his arrest.
The Speaker’s statement came after a matter raised by Rose Kabagyeni (Woman MP Kisoro) who stoop up on a matter of national importance demanding Government to reveal why Kayihura was arrested saying his arrest has created anxiety across the country.
She explained: “We are disturbed by the conflicting statements surrounding the circumstances of the arrest and detention of the former IGP and we are alarmed by the media speculation and the information the media is feeding to the country.”

However, William Nzoghu MP(Busongora County) told Kabagyeni that General Kayihura has arrested and criminalised many people including the people whom he arrested and superintended over their killings like the ones in Kasese and warned her against challenging the decision of President Yoweri Museveni, who is the Commander in Chief.
He explained: “The Commander in Chief in his wisdom has arrested General Kayihura in connection with his dealings as far as criminality is concerned in this country and for the safety and security of our country.”
Kadaga then asked Kabagyeni to reveal her main objective in raising the matter to which she revealed was to ensure the General’s constitutional right of being produced in court within 48hours is respected.
Kadaga then told Parliament, “I believe the matter is under investigation, we have no value addition at this stage. Leave that matter.”
