MAKERERE: Makerere University administration has issued an ultimatum day for lecturers to submit students’ results before Friday 8, June 2018 to enable issuance of transcripts programme before graduation day effective.
In a letter dated June 1, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the University Vice chancellor, directed all University college principals to comply and receive and display full results for the just concluded semester two by Friday 8th June 2018.
“In 161st senate conference meeting held on Wednesday 9th may, it was agreed that full results be released, displayed and approved by 8th June 2018 to facilitate production and issuance of transcripts and 9th graduation list,” Prof Nawangwe said in a statement and that the top management will be scheduled thereafter to resolve any related issues arising out of this exercise.

Adding that; “This is therefore, to request you to comply and receive progress and approve and display full semester 11 2017/2018 academic year results by Friday 8th June 2018.”
He further said that funds were being disbursed to all university colleges for centralizing the marking process.
In a statement released few weeks ago, the university council approved issuance of original and certified copies of the transcripts to students before their graduation dates.
Prof Nawangwe insists that giving graduates their original transcripts before graduation day is what the institution ought to do as a world class university.

“Management has decided that in future students will be issued with original and certified copies of transcripts at the same time upon graduation to avoid inconveniences to students,” Prof Nawangwe said.
Issuance of transcripts at Makerere is done after students have cleared to all the necessary offices at the university including that of the university bursar.
However, up to now, a number of students are still on campus with pending assignments including research and final projects despite the university being on a long break.
The university council also approved that students will have to contribute some money to facilitate this process.
