
NAMUGONGO – Millions of pilgrims descended on to Namugongo on Sunday as Uganda celebrated Martyrs Day.
The Archbishop of Tororo, Emmanuel Obbo led mass at the Catholic shrine where an estimated 3.5 million people attended.
The Archdiocese of Tororo led the Catholic side of the celebrations while the four Anglican dioceses of Kigezi — Muhabura, North Kigezi, Kigezi and Kinkiizi, will animate the Church of Uganda service.

In his homliy, Archbishop Obbo called on the pilgrims to embrace good families. He warned Christians not to invite trouble in their lives by aiding breakdown of family life.
President Museveni who arrived at the Catholic Shrine after mass indicated that government would foster religious harmony among all denominations.

Fr. Alex Oketch, the director of communicstions for Tororo Archdiocese indicated that more than 2 million pilgrims attended the colourful mass, punctuated by very good singing from the choir.

The Catholic Shrine had filled up by Saturday evening as choirs got ready to animate vigil masses that usually punctuate the night.
