
KAMPALA – Preparations are in high gear as final knots are being placed in the much hyped 25 years of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II on the throne.
Buganda Kingdom will on Tuesday July 31 celebrate the silver jubilee of Mutebi with numerous events beginning with a main event at the Mengo Palace starting at 8:00 a.m.
His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II annually celebrates July 31, the day of his coronation.
July 31 is celebrated annually in Buganda in commemoration of the coronation of Kabaka Mutebi in 1993.
It was on July 31 1993 when the then Ssabataka of a nearly defunct kingdom, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was crowned the Kabaka of a new Buganda in a colourful function at Naggalabi Buddo. This was a major turning point for Buganda Kingdom.
Kabaka Mutebi has invited Otumfour Nana Osei Tutu II (Asante Hene), the cultural leader of the Asante people in Ghana as chief guest.
Asante Hene arrived on Sunday July 29 ahead of the Tuesday celebrations. Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and other kingdom dignitaries such as Prince David Wassajja, Princess Joan Nassolo, received him at Bulange, Mengo.

Asante Hene and Kabaka Mutebi are expected to plant memorial trees among other activities.
Police have already made heavy deployments of about 3,000 police officers to provide security during the much hyped Jubilee celebrations, the Baganda fondly refer to as Jubileewo.
Moses Kafeero, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander said that, “Officers will be reinforced by operatives from sister security agencies like the Military Police, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and the Internal Security Organization.”
“Some of the officers, especially crime Intelligence and Counter terrorism personnel have already taken position at Lubiri Palace and its surrounding areas,” he said.
Kafeero, has asked the celebrants to be alert and inform police in case of any suspicions.
Police medical service has also deployed about 10 nurses and 10 ambulances to help in case of any emergency during the celebrations.
