KAMPALA – A yet to be Identified woman was Wednesday morning found dead a few meters away from Makerere University next to the College of Veterinary and Bio-technology (COVAB).
The deceased who is suspected to have been a Makerere University student between 22- 25 years of age according to police, was found lying lifeless in a bushy area next to a footpath leading inside the University next to COVAB faculty and few meters from staff houses.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, they suspect the deceased to have been raped before being strangled to death.
‘’We have arrested some suspects who were found to be sleeping around the ‘crime scene as investigations go on,” Mr Oweyesigire said.
Owoyesigyire added that according to the police investigations at the crime scene, the deceased was killed at around 6:00am in the morning. He promised that a report will be released after thorough investigations.
However according to the local resident a one Martin Orwech, the footpath leading to the Campus premises is not safe and this is not the first time such an incident has happened.
‘’The footpath has no security lights and it was even once closed by the university administration sometime back but due to complaints from student using the footpath, it was re-opened’’ Orwech added.
The residents request the authorities to put security lights along this path and also deploy police to avoid such incidents happening.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Mulago hospital for post-mortem.
