KAMPALA – Bobi wine lawyers have on Monday, August 20 met the Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairperson Mr Medi Kaggwa and requested him to order the government to release the MP such that he can access for better-specialised treatment.
The lawyers and Family of the incarcerated Kyaddondo East MP want him to meet his personal physician who can ably make a decision about his health. They argue that the MP can be remanded in a gazetted place not in military barracks to make this happen.
President Museveni on Sunday issued a statement dismissing reports by both the MP’s lawyers and Family that he was bruised and had injuries as a result of torture during the arrest.

But the President’s statement contradicted that of the UHRC; which acknowledges that the MP was in a delicate health situation.
After visiting the MP in Makindye Barracks on Friday, UHRC Chairman Medi Kaggwa wrote:
“The Commission observed that he had a swollen face, was in pain and required support to walk. It was also observed that he had difficulty in sitting and breathing upon which he informed us that he felt pain in his rib cage and that he was bruised all over the body. Hon. Kyagulanyi informed the team that he had been severely tortured upon arrest in Arua where uniformed officers broke into his hotel room where in spite of having surrendered, they pounced on him, hit his head with an iron bar, indiscriminately beat and kicked him all over the body until he became unconscious,” Medi Kaggwa, Chairman UHRC said on Friday.
