
LUBAGA – Unknown people attempted to grab Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake from his hospital bed at Lubaga Hospital on Friday night, his family has revealed.
Mr Zaake is nursing severe injuries at the hospital sustained at the hands of security operatives who brutalised him after he was arrested following the chaos in Arua municipality by-election on August 13.
And now his family members have said on Friday night, some plain-clothed men attempted to forcibly take Mr Zaake off his hospital bed and take him to an unknown destination.
Mr Dan Mugambwa, a brother to Mr Zaake, revealed that when he saw the men, he made an alarm, forcing them to flee.
Mr Mugambwa said they are now living in fear that some people, whom he believes are security agencies, want to harm his brother.
“If the security operatives want our patient, let them inform us officially instead of trying to steal him,” he said.
Mr Zaake’s lawyer, Mr Asumani Basalirwa, confirmed the incident and condemned it.
He instead urged the government to avoid wrongly arresting people.
The news comes days after police claimed that Mr Zaake escaped from its custody following arrest.
On Friday, the management of Lubaga Hospital that the legislator may suffer permanent disability if he is not immediately taken abroad for specialised treatment. The hospital revealed that Mr Zaake suffered severe injury to his spine.
Mr Basalirwa urged the Uganda Medical Board to speed up the process of clearing the MP to travel abroad for treatment.
Mr Zaake was last year seriously injured following the chaos in the age limit debate in Parliament. He was subsequently taken abroad for treatment.
