KAMPALA – The police and the UPDF have denied being behind the arrest of Eddy Ssebuufu, aka, Eddie Mutwe, the private bodyguard to Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
Eddie Mutwe and Selector Devie, his official DJ, were picked from Red Pocket Pub in Kampala at around 1 am on Saturday morning by men believed to be security operatives. Their phones are switched off.
However, Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi on Saturday denied being behind the arrests.
“Why would we arrest Bobi Wine’s bodyguard?” Gen Muhoozi at a joint security press conference at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Saturday.
Police spokesman Emilian Kayima also said he was not aware of Mutwe’s arrest by police.
However, according to witnesses at the bar, Mutwe was picked by plain-clothed personnel moving in a police patrol vehicle.
Mutwe was last month arrested for assaulting and obstructing the arrest of legislator Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine during the demonstration against social media tax.
Mutwe reportedly grabbed handcuffs from a policeman before the crowd overpowered the police to set free Bobi Wine.
His arrest comes after his boss, Bobi Wine was arrested by soldiers of the Special Forces Command, tortured and eventually charged by the military court in Gulu with illegal possession of firearms. He was remanded to Makindye Military Police barracks until he reappeared before the same army court on Thursday, where the charges of illegal possession of firearms were dropped with no hint on where the guns that he supposedly possessed were.
