KAMPALA– Justice Catherine Bamugemereire has ordered the Minister in charge of Bunyoro Affairs Ernest Apuuli Monday Kiiza to stay away from Hoima land wrangles in which over 500 homes in 3 Villages in Kyabisagazi 2 Village Kigolobya Subcounty- Hoima District are threatened to face eviction.
This was after two occupants of the disputed land, Orgen Ngabiloyotho and Simon Achile petitioned the Commission of Inquiry into Land Matters over a 2-week notice to them to vacate the land, by a one Edgar Agaba.
The residents from three Villages in Hoima including Kyabisagazi 1, Kyabisagazi 2 and Hanga Village filed a petition before the Commission when it visited the area in July Last year, and it’s this petition that was still being investigated when the threatened eviction emerged.
The residents claim that the Kiiza is conniving with Agaba to take their 438 hectare piece of land which Agaba is said to have got from the bank as a mortgage.
Justice Bamugemereire has also ordered Agaba and the affected residents to appear before the Commission and sort out their Landlord-Tenancy relationship if any.
The Commission also heard that the Parents of the two complainants peacefully occupied the land in the 1950s, but in 1973 a one Neko Rukanyanga fraudulently acquired title of the said land after deceiving the elders that it was a government programme to acquire land from residents for farming.
Neko then mortgaged the land in Uganda Commercial Bank for a loan he failed to pay, and the Bank sold the said Land to Edgar Agaba.
