
NEW DELHI – High Profile Ugandan diplomat, Ms Samantha Mbabazi Sherurah has died.
A close family source revealed Ms Mbabazi passed on in India in the wee hours of Monday, September 17 (EAT).
The Former career diplomat and businesswoman was one of the brains behind the inauguration of the embassy in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. The embassy became operational on November 26, 2014, and the Consular Section was opened in March 2015 with Ambassador Stephen Mubiru at the helm of the embassy
Born to National Resistance Army hero and Nalubaale medallist, Late Prof. Kasuge Gideon Sherurah of Mirama, Kiruhura in 1972, Mbabazi served as First Secretary at the Uganda High Commission in Kuala Lumpur from 2015 until July 2018 and was later posted at the High Commission in New Delhi India in August, after a stint at the President’s Office
Ms Mbabazi is remembered for her active role in expediting cases of human trafficking and sex slavery of Ugandans in East Asia, the notable one being when she aided the return of three Ugandan women Nassuna, Tebazaala and Nankya[other names withheld] who had been recruited as sex slaves and they returned aboard an Ethiopian Airways flight on April 16, 2015.
