
KAMPALA– The much anticipated Uganda’s first ever geopolitics conference has started at Makerere University.
The two-day event sponsored by the French Embassy in partnership with Makerere University as the host is targeting the general public with a special focus on students, civil society, media, political decision makers and the diplomatic community.
According to the French Ambassador Stephanie Rivoal, the conference is aimed at providing a platform for building strong free flow of ideas and open discussions in a creative yet informative way contributing to the generation of knowledge.
“Geopolitics is not a threat but rather an issue of everyone because it is the world’s reality, therefore, it stimulates the intellectual discourse,” she added and that all discussions will also be steered by an enthralling mix of leading global experts coming from diverse fields.
The Ambassador said that the French Embassy looks forward to fully promote debates through the generation of topics and panel discussions by international and local researchers with the intention of creating an open-minded society to the realities of societies.

Meanwhile, Makerere Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe said that the University is proud to host the two-day vibrant public debate on World geopolitics as this will create an interactive and dynamic platform for dialogue and free exchange of ideas cutting across contemporary, local and international geopolitics.
The University, in partnership with Safe Boda have also provided free transport.
“If you have a Safe Boda App, use the Code: GEOPOLITICS for a free ride to any of the 3 Gates of Makerere. We have shuttles that will transport you from the Eastern, Western and Main Gates of Makerere to the venues, at a fee cost,” the university wrote.
According to organizers, celebrated star singer Jose Chameleon and comedian Daniel Omara are also going to headline acts at ongoing Kampala Geopolitics Conference.
“There will be food stands, Videos, Comedians and Music during lunch break, Art performances, exhibitions by artists, innovators & startups, students & youth led initiatives, live studio by media challenge initiative and more,” said the Ambassador.
