MOYO – State Minister for Primary Health Care Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu has urged youth not to join the People Power pressure group because it uses the red colour, which implies danger.
Addressing residents of Obongi County in Moyo District, West Nile, at the weekend, Dr Moriku said most of those wearing the People Power colour do not know what it means and that they are being used to commit crime.
The minister revealed that Uganda’s independence and democracy were brought with bloodshed of Ugandans who were patriotic and not like those of People Power.
“You can see the symbols of red, which is danger. I want to caution all of us when you bring a new machine you do not know how to operate it, you do not know where the red buttons are. You need to tread carefully and it is better to be on the old machine (NRM party) that you know how to operate it then stick to machine where you know that is the switches,” Dr Moriku said.
The People Power slogan has come to fame with Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, who has gained popularity among the youth.
But Dr Moriku said the ruling NRM party is still strong and has the capacity to steer Uganda to greater heights.
“Nobody should be allowed to undermine the historical leaders of NRM government. I want to assure all of us, especially Uganda’s young generation that the NRM government will continue to maintain peace and stability in Uganda,” she said.

In August, former Presidential Press Secretary Joseph Tamale Mirundi warned the ruling NRM party and President Museveni that the Bobi Wine-led “People’s Power” is a real threat to the ruling party, because slogans have ditched several governments around the world from Kenya to the USA, and Germany among others.
Now a regular TV Panellist at NBS, Mr Mirundi said the youthful Kyadondo East legislator, who has dominated the news agenda locally and internationally ever since he was brutally arrested on August 13 in Arua, is a lucky man because he’s arrived at the right moment in time with a dominant youth demographic of the population believes in his message of hope.
“Bobi Wine’s slogan is a very big threat to the NRM and this is because of the mistakes they have done. He doesn’t have a political program but his slogan, ‘People Power’ is very dangerous,” Mr Mirundi said.
