KAMPALA– A video footage from CCTV camera has shown former Minister for Labour Herbert Kabafunzaki receiving a bribe of 5 million shillings bribe Aya investment director Muhammad Hamid.
The video, which was played in the Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday, shows Mr Kabafunzaki receiving the money from Hamid at Serena Hotel.
The video was brought to the court by Samuel Eranya, the hotel’s head of security, who appeared as prosecution witness number eight in the case where Mr Kabafunzaki and his aide Brain Mugabo are facing trial on charges of corruption, abuse of office and aiding and abetting of corruption.
In the video, which Eranya said he retrieved on 8th April 2017, shows Mugabo coming to the hotel first to meet Hamid before Kabafunzaki arrives with his young daughter and another co-accused, Bruce Lubowa.
The minister is also seen in the video meeting the investor who hands him an envelope.
The court presided over by Justice Margret Tibulya accepted the footage stored on a flash disc as an exhibit before adjourning the case to 26th November 2018 when Kabafunzaki’s lawyer will cross-examine Eranya.
Prosecution led by Barbra Kauma says it has decided to continue with the trial of the duo after the 3rd accused, Bruce Lubowa, vanished on allegations that he is being admitted at Butabiika Mental hospital where he is being managed for a psychiatric condition.
Former Minister Kabafunzaki allegedly received the 5 million shillings bribe in order to drop sexual harassment accusations levied against Hamid by a female employee.
