
DUBAI- Member States of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will Monday, November 5, cast their vote as the Union’s 20th Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-18) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates underway.
Uganda’s ICT and National Guidance Minister Frank Tumwebaze, together with Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director Eng Godfrey Mutabazi have since camped in Dubai to solicit support for the country, which is seeking to be re-elected to the (ITU) council.
Last Friday, ITU member states conducted the election of the top five Management positions of the union and on Monday, elections are being held for members of the ITU council as well as the 12 members of the Radio Regulations Board (RRB).
Uganda is canvassing for an election to ITU council ITUPP2018 and Eng Simon Bugaba is Uganda’s candidate for the ITU Radio Regulation Board. It’s an opportunity for Uganda to contribute to global innovation leadership and emerging technologies

The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference election process also included the posts of Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, and Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau.
Eng Bugaba has a vast experience and an expertise of over three decades within the scope of the work of the ITU which has positioned him as an expert opinion leader on ICT matters from the African region as evidenced by his ability in broad consultation and building consensus.
UCC describes Eng Bugaba as an innovative ICT expert with strengths in spectrum management and that he is committed to promoting dialogue, consensus and innovative solutions in the execution of the RRB role.
