
KAMPALA – City Hall Court grade one magistrate Patrick Talisuna has remanded nine sex workers to Luzira prison for being a public nuisance.
The nine pleaded guilty before they charged for urinating along Kampala road while carrying out their sex trade and court set November 21 for their sentencing.
They pleaded guilty to the offence slapped against them and asked court to give them a lenient sentence citing that they have families they are looking after.
Prosecution led by Mr Hillary Musimenta states that the group and others, on November 15, 2018, at Kampala Road did commit a nuisance by defecating/urinating along the road while carrying out their sex trade being a public place.
The nine include; Harriet Akiza 27, Judith Nasasira, 27, Diana Nabasa 27, Lydia Nabakooza 27, Doreen Nsungwa , Faridah Hamis 27, Sharon Andnio 27, Justine Nakafu 27 and Robinah Tumusiime an adult.
According to the prosecution, the accused act is against Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) maintenance law and order ordinance, 2016.
KCCA Maintenance Law and Order Ordinance 2016 states that if any person is found guilty of easing in the city, commits a public nuisance offence and is fined Sh40, 000 or imprisoned for two months or serve both sentences.
In the same court, 30 people have been charged and sent on remand at Luzira prison for engaging in disorderly behaviour by pickpocketing, snatching ladies bags, smoking opium and taking Marijuana.
They also pleaded not guilty to charges read to them and have been remanded until December 3 when they will re-appear for mention as investigations continue.
The accused were arrested on November 15th 2018 from different places around the city which include; Luwum Street, William Street, Kisenyi and other places.
