KAMPALA – The National Drug Authority (NDA) has appointed David Nahamya as the new Executive Secretary to replace Donna Asiimwe Kusemererwa whom Court ordered to vacate office.
Last week, Court of Appeal dismissed an application in which Kusemererwa had appealed the orders of the High Court amongst which, an injunction was issued restraining her from acting in the position of the Secretary to the Authority.
Now Namanya who has been working as Director of Inspectorate and Enforcement has been appointed the new executive secretary.
The NDA Board chairperson Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo said the decision to appoint Nahamya follows an extraordinary meeting that was held on Monday, February 18.
According to the notice issued, NDA is doing its work smoothly and is back to normal.
“We would like to assure the public that the Authority has, through its internal mechanisms as provided by law, been able to fill the management gap and operations are running normally,” read the notice, in part.
Bitekyerezo says NDA remains committed to the fulfillment of its statutory mandate of ensuring the availability of safe, efficacious and good quality drugs at all times to the population.
