KAMPALA – Anti-corruption court chief magistrate Pamela Lamunu has threatened to issue an arrest warrant against the new COSASE chairperson Mubarrack Munyagwa, if he fails to turn up in court on April 5, 2019.
This is after Munyagwa did not show up in court Wednesday 6 as expected to plead to corruption relates cases which he is alleged to have committed when he was still the Kawempe Division mayor.
However, Munyagwa was today [Wednesday] represented by lawyer Chrysostom Katumba who informed the court that he was out of the country on official duties.
But this did not go well with the state prosecutor Alice Komuhangi who asked the magistrate to issue a warrant of arrest against Munyangwa on grounds that the travel document brought to court by his lawyer was just an entrant document which can be done by anyone showing that they have traveled well as not.
Ms. Lamunu has considered the plea of Munyagwa’s lawyer that he will present him in court by himself on April 5.
Prosecution states that in the month of December 2014 at Haks Investment Limited, being a Mayor Kawempe Division, Munyagwa solicited for the gratification of 100million shillings from Francis Kakumba in exchange for him to exert improper influence over Kawempe Division Urban Council to nominate Muyanja Isaac as a member of Kampala City Land Board representing Kawempe Division.
In another count, Munyagwa in the same year is also accused of receiving a gratification of Shs73million out of the Shs100 million he solicited.
