MUKONO – As Christians start this year’s fasting period, the Rt. Rev James William Ssebaggala, the bishop of Mukono Diocese has asked Christians to pray for the children as they fast.
Speaking Wednesday, March 6, in Mukono, Bp. Ssebaggala said: “As we start this lent period as Christians, we do this in remembrance of the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert fasting.”
The lent period that starts on Ash Wednesday is observed by Christians for a period of 40 days focusing on fasting and praying as they abstain from certain things that are dear to them.
“Let us care about the children especially the orphans, the things that they go through,” he said.
In the same spirit Bp. Ssebaggala urges Christians to focus on the children since they don’t have a voice. He said that fasting is meant to mend people’s relationships with God and not to show off to everybody that you are fasting.
